Default Real ID for Blizzard forums

Please,

Have a look and post- as we need to express how we feel about something that is being forced on us.

If you are against

or

If you support the new features

//I personaly think it s a violation of my privacy.

Above link demonstrates how easy this will make it for vengeful co-players to track you.

Above link hints at a possible and very dark reason for Blizzard to implement Real ID.

This proposed change has already made it into main stream media in Germany, the biggest newspaper "Bild" already has an article about it.
http://www.bild.de/BILD/digital/spie...r-protest.html

It is important you take your protest out to the respecive customer protection and data protection agencies in your countries, most of them are eager to get involved in the issue after their latest success in reigning in facebook & others.

follow this link and voice your concerns:

Blizzard’s privacy policy shows Blizzard has reserved the right to “enhance or merge the personal information collected at a Blizzard site with data from third parties. Blizzard may also provide your personal information to other companies or organizations that offer products or services that may be of interest to you.” While the policy explicitly states users will be granted an opt-out opportunity, it is important to note that the market for user data is a large one, and the uses of Real ID may not be restricted to forum participation and chatting.

so it s not only the forums-

People need to stop being so paranoid, why are you ashamed of information you put on the internet yourself in the first place. Also the data they collect will in the end benefit you. As this is usually user preference data. "what sites do users <insert age> look at. What is the general interest of this target group etc, etc." They won't put your personal info anywhere. They don't care about your name, or anything relevant to that. They only care about marketing information, meaning target groups and scales of interest. Google has been doing this since they launched. Why do you think they are so rich?

Also the internet is often refered to as a "global village". No matter where you are from, take wow for example you're all from azeroth. This is the WoW community. the only difference in WoW is that you use nicknames. People knowing your real name can do just how much harm? bully you about your life? Put them on ignore, if they do something global in WoW they will be banned. As soon they put something private about you online they can be sued. It's up to you to hide your facebook, and what not information you put it up there yourself anyway. medical records and such important documents are still hidden.

I'll give you an example.

My name is Steven de Groot, i am born march 5 1988 in Alkmaar. Currently living in 2 places. Heerhugowaard, Netherlands and Lund, Sweden. See what exactly you can find out about me

well I am glad you are happy to share this personnal info-

I simply want to "choose" what is public and what is not- and certainly not being forced-

I enjoyed reading Blizz forums and sometimes participating in some debate on our in game feature- All i want of my fellow gamers is share a nice time and know me by my character's name.

The rest is Private and i certainly don t want 3rd parties to target my personal info for commercial abuses.

Steven, you live at X 19B, 22237 Lund, 1988-03-05 so you turn 23 in 239 days and were born on a Saturday 8161 days ago. You got brown hair pointing upwards (atleast in that photo) but i´m not sure i like the haircut. You study at Hogeschool van Amsterdam and are going to graduate 2012 in Interactive media. Your girlfriend is named Sandra Gertrud X and she´s born 1988-06-25. Sandra got two mobilephones so i´m guessing one of them is yours and she´s also the one responsible for the normal phone. In the Netherlands you either live at X 432, X 167 or X 42. More common name there than here. :/
You played for Veritas gaming in CoD 4 with:
Hardware
CPU: 550 watt (hmm, what?)
Mainboard: EPoX Nforce4
RAM: 2024MB DDR dualchannel
Monitor: 19" CRT
GFX: XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB DDR3
Soundcard: Sound Blaster Audigy 4
Internetconnection: Multikabel 12MB connection
Keyboard: E-tech
Mouse: Logitech Pilot

Oh, and I forgot the most important thing, you live in a light brown/yellow house and I bet you have visited Valentino more than once, their Lasse Special sounded nice.
